My name is Idon Ojan. So I'm a professor at the uh electrical engineering department at the University of California, Los Angeles. I teach and do research and my research involves creating uh new microscopes that uh are very compact and lightweight that really could fit into your pocket and could be um attached to a cell phone to do microscopy uh in the field. such that we bring those

large microscopes, we miniaturaturize them and then make them compatible with existing cell phones such that they could be used to diagnose disease to look at blood cells for instance or to look at water to see if there's contamination right in the field. There are some countries in Africa that more than 70% of uh the uh reported cases for malaria in this case they're false positives. So uh

seven like there that's a huge burden for economy because they're working on cases where it's false and this is resulting not from the lack of microscopes it's resulting from the lack of education proper training of these uh health technicians as a result of which there's a lot of uh false positives. So this type of an environment where everything is in the digital domain would also hopefully cut

down the number of false positives with the most sensitivity. So for those uh settings it will be really uh you know very important to bring something that doesn't exist but at the same time the same technology and the frame that it brings uh could be applied to developed countries like United States or France. It will improve the quality of life for everyone but there is today a

need to save lives. the future is uh pretty bright and I I see um that u different parts of the world um share their resources to uh create a better environment for everyone. Sophistication or complication is something that you need to get away uh especially at the hardware level.
