If you're not at the table, you're on the menu. And while that may sound cynical, it's true, and you need to be at the table. I'm Marian Kramers. I'm the head of communications and development at the Democratic Society. The Democratic Society is an organization of about 15 people. We have four offices all around Europe. And what we do is a lot of thinking, a lot of experimenting,
a lot of facilitating and embedding and developing of participation projects, ways to involve citizens in decision- making in uh in decisions and plans that affect their lives in whichever way. So we work online as well as offline. We work with civic tech, but we also work with development of new participation models. We also work outside of government, but we also work especially a lot with local government.
joyful, connected, warm, embracing, brave. It's the long breath and the long marathon that enables us all to to carry our dreams much further, to breathe freely and to breathe long deep breaths and and really create something. We have ingredients in our hands again and we know that somewhere in between those ingredients, there's a recipe that makes gold and that that can then be lasting change and can
be lasting improvement to a situation. So I feel empowered. I think in 2040 we will have a much more relative um understanding of nation states and of borders and of belonging. I think I hope but I also really think will will have moved towards people having this multi-layered identity that they themselves personally manage that they're aware of that they work with and that they um set set
goals around. And together we can empower those citizens again and we can make them feel like they're the custodians of their own future and the society they live in. But in order to get there, of course, we need a lot of concerted effort.
