DEMOCRACY R&DLES GENSLES PORTRAITS VIDÉO

Yves Dejaeghere // Democracy R&D // G-1000

How can we convince politicians, you know, to let go of something they cherish uh their own power and sometimes and very often want to get for to do good in their own views. Eve Diagra from G1000 in Belgium. The G1000, it's an organization that does advocacy for deliberative democracy. uh we try to both inform people but we also try to support politicians, organizations trying to work with

deliberative democracy. Friendship, learning, enthusiasm, democracy done with people and with citizens can lead to better outcomes, to higher legitimacy, to higher trust in the system. And this is basically what we all want from democracy. trusting citizens to run democracies in this way is is actually an even older idea. And so going back to that and uh for many of the organizations here present first trying to implement

this uh just on their own was a first test. Seeing that it works and how you know how you can really work with this to uh to make better decisions. 2040. I would hope that most cities uh use these kinds of citizens assemblies or mini publics to decide on uh on things or at least if there is still representation handed over to representatives who have become more

like boring bureaucrats, right? Politics becomes a bit more boring also. So at least I would see that a local level uh really spread out and becoming the normal thing and increasingly also at the national level. Um and with the first 2040 I would hope also at a transnational level you would have you know some steps towards using this to make decisions and tackling global problems. And now

we can say to a politician how but it works. Look there this city is doing it. And so the more this will happen, I think this will have a speeding up effect uh of this getting accepted.

Xavier Faltot

////// Xavier Faltot is a multimedia producer based in Berlin.
